The sushi of Kanpachi (寛八) in Okachimachi (御徒町) was authentic Edomae sushi (江戸前寿司) created by a true Edokko (江戸っ子) master. Impressive. Though I had been to its branch before, the head restaurant directly managed by the master was very different. First, the character of the master was wonderful. He was big-hearted, broad minded and cheerful. His artisan skill was beautiful. His management skill was cool.

Whenever we open the door of good sushi restaurants for the first time (in Japan, we have wide range of sushi restaurants), we get nervous. There might be difficult master, invisible specific rules, or price might be more expensive than expectation.... But in Kanpachi, such feeling is suddenly gone somewhere. Every staff headed by the master warmly welcomed us.
The master served only sushi which he truly believes delicious. Good ingredients were used. Moreover, the technique of making sushi is magnificent. Every piece of sushi was delicious. Careful work was hidden in the piece so that the taste becomes better. Even so, the price is not so high. Considering the quality and joyful moments, I can say it reasonable.
If you have a chance to visit Tokyo, I want you to try this kind of authentic Edmae sushi restaurants. My rating is 4.5 out of 5. Gochiso-samadeshita!
